Early Treatment of Orthodontic Patients
It was common, until the early 1980's, to wait until your child
reached the age of 13 to 14 to straighten their teeth. Today,
treating orthodontic problems at an early age, while the jaws
and teeth are developing and erupting, is the key to an attractive
smile. In many cases, it will eliminate the need for extraction
of permanent teeth when braces are required, after the eruption
of permanent teeth.
Ages 6-10 are important years. Children are developing toward
either a favorable jaw, skeletal, dental and facial relationship
or they are developing harmful dental function and unfavorable
facial appearances. A more ideal growth pattern and normal tooth
eruption can be achieved by early orthodontic treatment, which
influences the shape and position of the upper and lower jaws.
Consulting with Dr. Ayman, when
your child celebrates his or her 7th birthday, will enable us
to determine whether or not your child is a candidate for early
treatment.
